Unsaid 07:09
And she waved a quick goodbye Another moment passed me by Another chance to speak the words So long unsaid, so long unheard And I turned to walk away I swore I’d let her know someday I swore I’d share with her sometime The unsaid thoughts within my mind Every day that goes by Some will stay, some will die Find the time, make it count Reveal your mind or live in doubt Why are there always so many things left unsaid? And tomorrow is the past The day beyond may be the last The day before may be today So much unsaid, so much to say Every day that goes by Some will stay, some will die Find the time, make it count Reveal your mind or live in doubt Every day that goes by Some will stay, some will die Find the time, make it count Reveal your mind or live in doubt Why are there always so many things left unsaid? And I watched her close the door Like any other night before Like each night since, alone in bed Her “good night” now goes unsaid

Blindsight 04:33
Had all I needed But not all that I wanted My gaze fixed ahead Knew all the answers Nothing more for me to learn Ceaseless time to burn Both eyes now opened From beautiful delusion To which I had clung Gaze fixed behind me On a man who could not know This is tomorrow

about

I’ve always been a metal guy first and foremost, but “Unsaid” is something different by design. I wrote it in 2002, and it’s unapologetically inspired by Aaron Lewis’ “Outside”, which was in heavy rotation at the time. I appreciated the simplicity of a song that could be performed solo with an acoustic guitar, whereas everything else I’d ever written was for a full band with two electric guitars, bass, and drums. This demo has been collecting dust for 20 years because I didn’t know what to do with it, since it didn’t really fit with anything else I’d recorded.

“Blindsight” is the tail that wagged the dog. Listening to an old live tape from the late ’90s, I heard my then co-guitarist Erich Medenbach noodling with these riffs between songs, and the memories came flooding back. They were something we’d worked on but had never finished. I grabbed a guitar and searched my muscle memory to find the accompaniment I’d written all those years ago.

I reached out to Erich to see if he’d done anything with the song in the last 20-odd years. When he said he hadn’t, I sat down to write the lyrics and arrangement you hear now. Then I knew it would be the perfect companion to “Unsaid”, as the B-side of a single (like in those hoary days of yore when a 7" disc or a cassette had two sides). I hope you agree.

Metal fans, fear not, though! More heavy music will be coming....
